1.
Site Assessment & Consultation
Every successful lawn installation begins with understanding the site. Before any work begins, our team visits your property to assess the area — evaluating soil condition, drainage patterns, sun and shade exposure, slope and grading, and intended use of the lawn. This allows us to make the right recommendations from the start and tailor the installation to your property’s specific conditions.
2.
Site Clearance & Preparation
A great lawn is only as good as the ground it’s laid on. We begin by clearing the installation area of all existing grass, weeds, roots, rocks, and debris. Any old growth is removed completely to prevent regrowth beneath the new turf. This stage ensures a clean, unobstructed base for everything that follows.
3.
Grading & Levelling
Uneven ground leads to uneven lawns — and worse, poor drainage and pooling water. Our team grades and levels the soil across the entire installation area, correcting any slopes, dips, or high points to create a smooth, even surface. Proper grading also ensures water flows away from structures and drains correctly, protecting both the lawn and your property.
4.
Soil Preparation & Enrichment
Healthy grass needs healthy soil. After levelling, we prepare the soil by tilling the surface to the correct depth, improving soil structure where needed, and incorporating organic matter or soil conditioners to enhance fertility and drainage. This step is critical for encouraging fast, deep root establishment once the turf is laid.
5.
Fertilisation & Pre-Plant Treatment
Before the turf goes down, we apply a quality starter fertiliser to the prepared soil. This feeds the roots immediately on contact, accelerating establishment and helping the new lawn integrate quickly with the ground beneath. Where necessary, we also treat the soil for pests, diseases, or pH imbalances that could hinder growth.
6.
Turf Variety Selection
Not all turf is created equal, and not all lawns have the same requirements. We offer a selection of premium turf varieties suited to the South African climate, each with different characteristics in terms of drought tolerance, shade performance, foot traffic durability, and maintenance requirements. Our team advises on the best variety for your property based on the site assessment, so you get a lawn that’s not only beautiful but genuinely suited to its environment.
Popular varieties we work with include:
- LM Berea (Buffalo Grass) — Shade tolerant, lush and dense, ideal for residential gardens with tree coverage
- Kikuyu — Fast-growing, hardy, and highly drought resistant, great for high-traffic and full-sun areas
- Cynodon (Common Couch) — Fine-textured, wear-tolerant, and low-maintenance, suited to both homes and sports surfaces
- Paspalum — Salt-tolerant and visually refined, often used in upmarket residential and commercial settings
